ForgeTax Rage stages represent the dragon's escalating impatience whenever you fail to pay your daily tribute in full. As the forge owner behind the bars grows angrier, your operating conditions worsen, reducing your upcoming sword supplies and eventually triggering a lethal attack that ends your run.
Understanding how anger accumulates, how it alters deliveries, and how to lower it is essential to surviving your forging contract.
How the Dragon Rage System Works
In ForgeTax, each day concludes at the counter. You lay your forged blades down and ring the bell to settle the day's quota. If the combined value of your submitted swords meets or exceeds the required amount, you advance safely to the next day.
If you submit less than the required amount, the dragon's anger advances by one stage. According to developer patch notes and the in-game tutorial, the dragon's anger has three distinct levels:
- Stage 1 (First Warning): The dragon acknowledges your shortfall. Your next day's stock takes an immediate penalty.
- Stage 2 (Second Warning): Tension escalates with distinct environmental lighting and sound feedback. The dragon throws replacement swords into the forge far more aggressively, and your supply penalty persists.
- Stage 3 (Lethal Stage / Last Rage Stage): Reaching the third anger stage triggers the dragon's lethal tail sequence. The dragon strikes through the forge bars, killing you instantly and ending the run. Dying to the dragon for the first time awards the "Now Hiring" Steam achievement.
Penalties and Survival Rules
Failing to satisfy the quota imposes direct gameplay disadvantages before the dragon ever turns lethal.
Supply Reduction
Whenever you miss a tribute payment, you receive one fewer sword in your next delivery supply. Because forged swords are your sole source of gold for tribute and your fuel for acquiring relics from the relic machine, losing a sword significantly tightens your profit margins on subsequent days.
Contract Completion Conditions
Under the standard 21-day contract (running from April 15 through May 5), tribute targets escalate toward a final baseline requirement of 145,000G.
Official update notes confirm that falling short of the tribute requirement on the final contract day (May 5) still counts as a successful run completion, provided the shortfall does not push the dragon's anger into the lethal third stage. If you enter the final day at Stage 0 or Stage 1 anger, an incomplete payment will raise anger without killing you, allowing you to survive the settlement and clear the contract.
Managing and Mitigating Dragon Rage
Because anger lingers across rounds, letting rage build up leaves you with zero margin for error when forge RNG turns against you. The game offers specific mechanics and items to manage high anger levels:
- Pay Tribute in Full at Stage 2: If you reach the last survivable Rage stage, meeting the full tribute requirement on the next settlement keeps you alive. Paying your requirement in full at the final non-lethal rage stage unlocks the "One Last Chance" achievement.
- Incense of Oblivion: An anvil consumable that immediately reduces dragon anger by one stage upon use. Official patch notes state this item can only be used once per run.
- Dragon's Pardon: An unlockable relic added to the general item pool after meeting specific milestone criteria, designed around tribute survival.
